Calling Card Tray - footed; silverplate over copper; probably English. These trays were kept on hall tables so visitors could leave their calling cards. Purchased in Virginia, 1998.

4" high. Carried upstairs to light the way to bed. A frugal housewife used every bit of candle , which made the push-up holder more economical than the fixed candle holder.

First Empire Hall Rack
- 89" tall; 42" at widest point, 14-3/4" deep, 14' x
28" base. Mahogany- some solid and some veneer. 12 hanging pegs; Ogee base with straight legs, solid fleur de-lis at the top; S swirls; diamond shape opening at the top would have held mirror glass. Bottom would have had metal tray to collect water from umbrellas.
