Title
Earthenware bowl
Description
Made in Pennsylvania. Meat was stored in these and covered with lard. This was an early form of refrigeration as this was one means of keeping meat even though it frequently spoiled. This was the forerunner of the gray stoneware crock. The red clay it is made of is native to the eastern sea board.
